the F train / 14th street / downtown

there are a few consistent things about waiting for the downtown F train at 14th street post rush hour. first, there will be far more V trains arriving than F trains. second, the platform will be hotter than the hottest day of summer. third, the train will often be so late that it has to skip stops like 2nd ave, east broadway, and york st. but even after all of these things, on any given night, you can find some of the best musicians in the city. maybe it’s a simple matter of acoustics, but without fail, i can forget about all the other nasty stuff when i hear someone making magic with a violin or singing their heart and soul out up and down the tracks. it kinda makes all that other shit worth it.
