bohemian beer garden

IMG_3569

a great little hideout off of the N train at astoria blvd is the bohemian beer garden. cheap and amazing beer, great people watching, and if it’s your thing, kielbasa and pirogies! it’s a fantastic summer hangout, great for bringing large groups of your pals.

dept of craft does renegade!

IMG_3562

got to see my homegirls yesterday at the renegade craft fair, selling their awesome wares. i felt so bad for them, it was 90+ all weekend, and like the crafty troopers they are, they stuck it out and were quick to give a nice smile to go with their beautiful merchandise. congrats ladies! :)

brighton beach

IMG_3544

i have found my new place to go on super hot city weekends in the city – brighton beach! it only costs $2 (unless you have an unlimited pass) on the Q train. the nice part about the ride is the 2nd half of it is above ground so you can look out the window and remember that it’s sunny out (hard to do when you are underground). the beach was PACKED as any nyc beach would be, but there was something really relaxed about it. next time i want to go back and check out some of those amazing russian restaurants on the boardwalk. stay tuned.

summer solstice

the longest day of the year was on tuesday and i spent it in a yoga class with one of my favorite teachers, who played countless covers of george gershwin’s Summertime one after the other. try it sometime, there’s a lot of great interpretations… not just Janis Joplin, but Joni Mitchell and even Sublime – which made it to my Summertunes 05 mix. it never actually registered to me that it was the same song.

this weekend is action packed. if you have the opportunity, be sure to head out to mccarren park in williamsburg for the Renegade Craft Fair featuring my special friends The Department of Craft. and of course, the annual spectacle that is the Mermaid Parade.

have fun everybody!

the city that sleeps sometimes

not a lot of people on the streets at 5:45 am… trash cans rolled over into the street, garbage strewn everywhere. empty sidewalks and open delis. birds. but fast car rides and morning breezes. that’ll wake you up.
